Happy Father's Day As Summer Begins

On this Sunday, June 21, 2015, we have the confluence of Father's Day and the beginning of Summer, 2015.   So, on this Tales classical music weekend, we wish everyone a very Happy Father's Day!

I'd like to wish a special Happy Father's Day to my "Pop" who passed on December 9, 2007.

Sandy, Susan, Brad and I wishing our Pop a Happy Father's Day as he is etched in our memory forever.

We love you, Pop!
To honor all the father's out there and to everyone honoring their father who may no longer be with you, here are a couple of songs I hope you enjoy.

From last year's Classical Music Father's Day special:
"Oh, my beloved father" is the translation of  "O mio babbino caro", one of the most beloved aria's from Giacomo Puccini's opera "Gianni Schicchi". This melodic aria may be short in length, but it is long in beauty.

Please turn up the volume to hear , "America's soprano"  Renee Fleming in this beautiful verson of "O Mio Babbino Caro" [Thank you Onegin 65 on You Tube for this video]

G. Puccini: "O Mio Babbino Caro" aria from Gianni Schicchi

Now, for this oldie but goodie song that many [or probably most] of you younger Tales readers may never have heard of, " Oh, My Papa" written by Swiss composer Paul Burkhard and became famous in the English version sung by Eddie Fisher in 1954 [thanks to Scrambled Eggs 1969 for this old video]:

Now as we enter the Summer season the Tales classical music weekend would not be complete without these great compositions representing the summer: Baroque composer, Antonio Vivaldi and his Summer violin concerto from his "Four Seasons" and the great modern American composer George Gershwin's "Summertime" soprano aria from his opera, Porgy and Bess. This is a video of the legendary soprano, Kathleen Battle with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra [thanks to Voice Virtuoso on You Tube]

On a side note:  Mrs. B and I were lucky to be able to see the Montreal Symphony Orchestra when we visited a couple of years ago.  They are really good.
