Remember When James Lileks Hung Up On Hugh Hewitt?

Aaron Sharockman of Politifact
On Tuesday, March 28, 2017, Hugh Hewitt interviewed Aaron Sharockman, the executive director of Politifact.  He had him on his radio show to find out why Politifact's Allison Graves labeled as false Hugh Hewitt's assertion, that he made on Chuck Todd's "Meet the Press", that "Obamacare was in a death spiral", without even giving Hugh the courtesy of a response [or of informing him of what she was about to claim].  Hugh Hewitt was armed with the facts and blistered Aaron with some tough questions.

There is one thing I must give Aaron Sharockman credit for.  He took an hour of tough questioning from Hugh, without hanging up on him.  I can't say the same for Karen Finney, who [in August of 2013] couldn't take the heat and hung up on Hugh after only a couple of minutes of straight forward simple questions by Hugh.

What was great was one of Hugh's best friends, James Lileks, called in to the Hugh Hewitt show the next night and did an extemporaneous skit playing the part of Karen Finney and he also hung up [in jest] the phone on Hugh.

Trust me friends, this is funny stuff.   If you have never heard this, please listen to the following two videos of the Hugh Hewitt show from Aug. 28 of 2013 where Karen Finney hung up the phone on Hugh Hewitt and then the next night when James Lileks did the same.

So, at least Bravo to Aaron Sharockman for not joining the gang of 5 who have hung up on Hugh Hewitt: the late Helen Thomas, Ed Henry, Karen Finney on August 28, 2013, James Lileks [in jest] on August 29, 2013, and David Corn on Feb. 23, 2015.
This is a previous Tales post published on Sept. 2, 2013 entitled:

What Do James Lileks And Karen Finney Have In Common?:

James Lileks does it again.  A few weeks ago the Tales featured James Lileks brilliant extemporaneous BBQ skit with Hugh Hewitt [on the Hugh Hewitt radio show] in which he played [acted] Hugh's previous guest, congressman Lou Barletta, R-PA, when answering [or avoid answering] Hugh's questions.

Karen Finney hung up on Hugh Hewitt
This last Thursday night, August 29, 2013, on the Hugh Hewitt radio show, James Lileks played the part of MSNBC liberal Democrat political commentator, Karen Finney, who, the night before, was interviewed by Hugh Hewitt.  Karen Finney on MSNBC had made this absurd attack on Senator Ted Cruz, R-TX, comparing him [his tactics] to Senator Joe McCarthy [in the 1950's].   Playing the "McCarthy" card against an effective conservative Republican is probably the second favorite card they play.  The first, of course, is the race card.

Karen Finney's answers to Hugh Hewitt's questions revealed her total lack of knowledge regarding that time period in history.  She kept wanting to talk and denounce Senator Ted Cruz, so she became very annoyed when Hugh asked her questions regarding the McCarthy hearings [since she was the one making the comparison of McCarthy and Cruz].   Hugh asked Karen if Alger Hiss was a Communist spy.  And he asked her, and asked her, and asked her again.  She would never answer, either because she didn't want to or because she had no clue who Alger Hiss was.  Karen got so frustrated on not being able to continue to bash Senator Cruz  that she hung up on Hugh.

James Lileks hung up on Hugh Hewitt
James Lileks played himself when answering seriously Hugh's initial questions regarding Syria and the Middle East.  Then Hugh asked James if he thought Alger Hiss was a communist spy.  James, quickly found a telephone booth and suddenly turned into Karen Finney.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Playing the part of Karen Finney well, James Lileks would not answer Hugh's questions about Alger Hiss and abruptly hung up on Hugh [which sent Hugh into laughter].

The question posed by this post is 'what do James Lileks and Karen Finney have in common?'  The answer, of course, is that they both hung up on the great Hugh Hewitt.

Enjoy Karen Finney's hang up call of Hugh Hewitt, followed by James, "Karen Finney", Lileks hang up call of Hugh Hewitt. [compliments of podcasts taken from The Hughniverse]
