If You Think Classical Music is Boring, Think Again!

When I first met my wonderful wife Sheralyn, she was never excited about going to the symphony because she thought it would be boring. Also, in those early years, I wasn't that knowledgeable about classical music, so I never really thought about going to hear the Houston Symphony Orchestra.

Well, after we both saw and loved the movie Amadeus [in 1984], which was about the life of Mozart, I had convinced my wife to go to the symphony during one of the Houston Symphony Mozart festivals.  This particular concert was entitled Amadeus.  This was a unique concert in that it mirrored the movie with both dialogue and great Mozart music. This would be the first time of many that we would go to Jones Hall in Houston. Now each year, for the last 10+ years we have gotten season tickets to enjoy the great Houston Symphony Orchestra at Jones Hall.

This first concert we saw was great. After some dialogue, the first piece they played [without warning] was Mozart's symphony #25 [1st movement].  What came from silence out of the blue was this dynamic,  explosive sound from the Houston Symphony Orchestra.  I could see from the corner of my eye, my wife almost jumping from her seat with the tense, exciting opening of the 25th symphony.  I knew at that moment, without even asking her, that she would not use the words boring and symphony anymore. I knew from that moment on, she was hooked.  I also realized I was hooked too.

I will make this confession. My wife Sheralyn wasn't the only one who almost jumped out of her seat.  I did too.  This was also my first time going to Jones Hall and oh, what a great experience.

For those of you who have seldom or have never attended your home town symphony orchestra in concert, I would encourage you to do so.   I think if you do, you will be hooked like Sheralyn and I have been.

In watching and listening to the following video, I would  like you to pretend you are like my me and my wife going to your first symphony.  Turn up the volume, sit back and I think you will see why my wife and I almost jumped from our seat with those first few notes of this very dramatic Mozart music.

Classical music boring?  Listen to this and you will realize classical music is anything but boring. I think exciting comes to mind.

Turn up the volume and Enjoy!

Mozart Symphony #25 in G minor, 1st movement, Allegro con brio:

I love classical music. My piece when I was still a classical piano student was Vera's Theme and My Serenade by Schubert. It's so mainstream but I plan to let the Wedding bands London play Canon in D by Pachelbel for my wedding dance.

Wow, won't that be cool! Congratulations Zane!

I'm pretty sure it was really difficult to save enough sovereign coins or any form of currency just to listen to a live music. That's why I am very thankful that right now, you can listen to any music you like through the internet, the radio, or live. But if there's one thing that I love about music during Mozart's era was the quality and the pure unadulterated talent that they have in order to compose compelling and heart-tugging tunes. Right now, anyone with synthesizers can do it. Oh well.
