Happy Chanukah 2017!

Happy Chanukah 2017!

Tuesday night, Dec. 12, 2017 at sunset is the first night of Chanukah, the Jewish Holiday that will last for eight days until Wednesday, Dec. 20.  That means the final night when all the lights on the menorah will be lit is on Tuesday night, Dec. 19.

Chanukah is also spelled Hanukkah.  The former is the more traditional spelling while I think most people use the latter today.  I think there are also other spellings for this holiday but for this post, I am using the "old school" spelling.

This Holiday celebration of Chanukah is in honor to God for a miracle he blessed the Jews with, as explained here by the web site Ohr Somayach: "The lights of Chanukah celebrate a little miracle: After a small band of Jews had beaten the might of Greece, one small flask of oil for the Menorah was discovered in the Holy Temple - One small flask, un-defiled by the Greeks... That flask contained enough oil to last just one short day. But it burned and burned for eight days... To commemorate that little miracle we kindle the lights of Chanukah for eight days".

I want to wish to Jews everywhere, and all readers of this blog a very HAPPY CHANUKAH! H
