Happy Birthday, Anne Frank

Happy Birthday to Anne Frank, who on June 12, 2015, would be 86 years old.

Anne Frank [June 12, 1929- Feb. 1945] began her diary on her 13th birthday
From Wikipedia:  "She is one of the most discussed Jewish victims of the Holocaust. Her wartime diary The Diary of a Young Girl has been the basis for several plays and films. Born in the city of Frankfurt in Weimar,Germany, she lived most of her life in or near Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. Born a German national, Frank lost her citizenship in 1941.  She gained international fame posthumously after her diary was published. It documents her experiences hiding during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II.  The Frank family moved from Germany to Amsterdam in 1933, the year the Nazis gained control over Germany.  By May 1940, they were trapped in Amsterdam by the German occupation of the Netherlands. As persecutions of the Jewish population increased in July 1942, the family went into hiding in some concealed rooms behind a bookcase in the building where Anne's father worked. After two years, the group was betrayed and transported to concentration camps.  Anne Frank and her sister, Margot Frank, were eventually transferred to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, where they died (probably of typhus) in February or March 1945 [less than 3 years after starting her diary]."

From the Anne Frank website here is a page from her diary:

From the Anne Frank website: "On 12 June 1942 Anne Frank celebrated her thirteenth birthday. Her parents gave her a diary with a red checked cover, her favorite present. “I hope I will be able to confide everything to you, as I have never been able to confide in anyone, and I hope you will be a great source of comfort and support”, Anne wrote in her diary the same day."

What a courageous and heroic young girl Anne Frank was who has forever been etched as a giant in history.  Anne Frank's important riveting "diary of a young girl" helped to reveal the inhumanity and horror of the evil Nazis and the Holocaust they perpetrated.

Happy birthday, Anne Frank!

Along with Anne Frank and her family, let us always remember all of the victims of the Holocaust.

Let us Never Forget!
