|Founded the "Contract With America"|
Today, with the unpopularity of Obamacare with a majority of the American people, the GOP needs to establish and run on a new contract with America, a health care contract. Whenever you see a Republican politician being interviewed by the main stream media, the liberal interviewer will always ask the following question, "Republicans says they want to do away with Obamacare, but you haven't come up with any ideas, where's your plan?" And almost every time I will hear the Republican say, oh, we have plenty of ideas out there, we have plenty of congressman with different ideas. And the journalist will rightly ask, well, where is your single plan-you haven't put one out there. And every single time I have heard the Republican member of congress say, yes, we need to do that, and we will.
Well stop talking about how you need to do it, and do it already! There are 3 major reasons why I submit the GOP must present a health care plan [which is actually a health insurance plan--but the Democrats have co-opted the language]: 1. We must do it, because the American people have a right to know that something will be done to remove the disastrous Obamacare and that there will be a plan to actually fix the sky rocketing costs of not just health care, but of their own family and individual health insurance plans. 2. We must do it, because, like the "Contract With America" this, I believe, will provide the impetus for a monumental sea change in the Senate and greater control of the House. 3. We must run on a "Health Care Contract With America" because when we do win the Senate in November and maintain control of the House, we must have this election be declared as a mandate on repealing and replacing Obamacare. Let there be no doubt why the GOP won. That way when we [GOP] pass bills that deal with health care insurance, that either repeals Obamacare or alters it in such a way to be de facto repealed and replaces it with our ideas, we will have the American people with us. So, when president Obama vetoes the bill, which he surely will do, we can ride that all the way to 2016 and I think greatly enhance our [GOP] chances of winning the presidency.
Now here is my proposal for the GOP's "Health Care Contract With America." First of all we go by the KISS rule, keep it simple stupid. I will propose the GOP write a one page plan. That plan will keep the 3 items in Obamacare that all say [even GOP politicians admit] that are popular with a majority of the American people: 1. Allowing children to stay on their parents plan until age twentysix. 2. "Helping" people with pre-existing conditions to obtain health insurance [I say helping as that will be the biggest cost to the insurance companies and most expensive for the individual] and 3. Ending the lifetime limits on insurance payouts.
Along with those 3 items that we keep from Obamacare we add the two things that I have heard every GOP politician mention favor, and the two things that will finally really help lower the cost of health care and lower the cost to the individual health insurance plan: 1. allow an individual or family to buy insurance from any insurance company in America anywhere in America [i.e., across state lines], just like is done for auto insurance or life insurance. 2. Tort reform, the one thing that will do the most to lower the cost of health care for providers and users. Having many doctors in the family I know that the threat of outlandish lawsuits is the biggest headache to doctors and has the most deleterious effect on costs [for the doctors and hospitals insurance] and for doctors sometimes recommending unneeded procedures to protect themselves against a frivolous lawsuit that could destroy their practice.
Yes, there are many other ideas and plans from individual Republicans, but these are the major ideas that everyone can coalesce around and support. These are the ideas that can be accomplished and get almost unanimous support from the GOP.
When writing the "contact" we do not give any details that the main stream media will try to pick apart. We just put these items down on paper in an understandable way to the American people that we pledge to propose in congress and put to a vote. We must make the 2014 election a referendum on repealing Obamacare and replacing it with a plan [that we let the American people know the basics of the plan ahead of time].
Here is the one page health care contract with America that I believe the GOP should propose, sign and run on in 2014.
The GOP's Health Care Contract With America:
In an effort to reduce the costs of health care in America and reduce the cost of health insurance to Americans while at the same time maintaining the high level of the best health care system in the world, we, the following undersigned, pledge to the American people that we will vote in congress to repeal the Affordable Care Act and replace it with a private run health insurance system that will include the following points:
1. Children 26 and under can remain on their parents health insurance plan.
2. People with pre-existing conditions will be helped to pay for an insurance plan, so that no American can be denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition.
3. There will be no lifetime limits on insurance payouts for any American paying for health insurance.
4. There will be major tort reform to help stop the frivolous lawsuits against providers and that will help lower health care costs.
5. Americans will be able to purchase any private health insurance plan anywhere in America.
I truly believe that this will be the formula for a wave GOP victory election in 2014 and [after president Obama vetoes the GOP plan] also for the GOP to win the presidential election in 2016.
Think about it. After the GOP wins congress with this mandate to repeal and replace Obamacare, and after president Barack Obama vetoes any GOP plan that alters Obamacare in any major way, won't it be fun to watch Hillary Clinton, the grandmother of Obamacare [a term given to her first by Hugh Hewitt in Nov. 2013] be put in a terrible political quandary. Will she run on repealing Obamacare and infuriate her liberal base in the Democrat Party, or will she run on Obamacare and infuriate a majority of the American people?
Won't that be fun to watch Hillary squirm...and lose!
If the GOP makes this health care contract with America, Obamacare and Hillary Clinton will be the big losers, while America and the American people will be the big winners.
Update: Please read my doc brother Brad's important idea that also must be included in a replacement bill [but I feel we don't need to announce ahead of time]. Thanks brother for great idea!
